Behavior of cracked steel plates strengthened with adhesively bonded CFRP laminates under fatigue Loading: Experimental and analytical study

چکیده
The strengthening of steel structures using externally bonded (EB) carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates has gained popularity due to the advantages such as their high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance. Even though previous studies showed application EB CFRP can enhance fatigue performance cracked plates, little is known regarding high-cycle CFRP-to-steel joints. As debonding laminate from substrate a commonly observed failure mode under loading, sound understanding behavior joints crucial for better CFRP-strengthened plates loading. This study experimentally theoretically investigates plates. Five pre-cracked were strengthened with tested test results modes, fatigue-life extension, joint discussed. A numerical modeling approach based on recently developed bond-slip model interface loading presented plate. Although proposed theoretical conservative, this method accurately predicted remaining life

Analysis of Concrete Bridge Girders Strengthened with Cfrp Laminates under Service and Extreme Loading Conditions
Externally bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates are a feasible and economical alternative to traditional methods for strengthening and stiffening deficient reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete girders as shown in Fig. (1). Although extensive research has already been undertaken to investigate the behavior of CFRP strengthened bridge girders, the majority of work condu...
متن کاملAnalytical Solutions for the Flexural Behavior of Metal Beams Strengthened with Prestressed Unbonded CFRP Plates
Trapezoidal prestressed unbonded retrofit (TPUR) systems have been recently developed and tested. The authors have already developed a comprehensive and accurate analytical solution for the TPUR system that takes many system parameters into account. The main aim of this paper is to develop a simplified analytical solution for predicting the behavior of metal beams that have been strengthened wi...
متن کاملBond Behavior of Cfrp Strengthened Steel Structures
Recent research has focused on rehabilhation and strengthening of steel structures and bridges using fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) materials. The bond behavior of FRP materials to steel structures is quite different from lhat of concrete structures. Preliminary test results showed the occurrence of very high bond stresses for most strengthening applications due to the amount of strengthening r...
متن کاملNumerical and Experimental Study on Ratcheting Behavior of Plates with Circular Cutouts under Cyclic Axial Loading
In this paper, accumulation of plastic deformation of AISI 1045 steel plates with circular cutouts under cyclic axial loading is studied. Loading was applied under force-control conditions. Experimental tests were performed using a Zwick/Roell servo hydraulic machine. Under force-control loading with nonzero mean force, plastic strain was accumulated in continuous cycles called ratcheting. Nume...
متن کاملFatigue and Overloading Behavior of Steel-Concrete Composite Flexural Members Strengthened with High Modulus CFRP Materials
Due to corrosion and the continuous demand to increase traffic loads, there is a need for an effective system which can be used to repair and/or strengthen steel bridges and structures. This paper describes an experimental program, recently completed, to investigate the fundamental behavior of steel-concrete composite scaled bridge beams strengthened with new high modulus carbon fiber reinforce...
